PISTOL PERMIT APPLICATION & INSTRUCTIONS

*MANDATORY PRE-REGISTRATION AVAILABLE ONLY IN THE FIRST SELECTMAN'S OFFICE - BY APPOINTMENT ONLY MONDAY - THURSDAY 9 AM - 3 PM.

Pistol Permit Applications for pre-registration will be processed in the First Selectman's Office by appointment only Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m

*FOR ALL TEMPORARY PISTOL PERMITS TO BE ISSUED, THE TOWN WILL CALL YOU TO LET YOU KNOW YOUR TEMPORARY PISTOL PERMIT IS READY AND TO PLEASE SEND IN A PERSONAL CHECK MADE PAYABLE TO 'THE TOWN OF HARWINTON' FOR $70.00 (this is a separate and final fee in addition to pre-registration required by the State upon pre-registration).

STEPS FOR APPLYING

1) Fill out a Temporary Pistol Permit Application & Privacy Policy. Applications are available in our office, or can be download here. It is mandatory to have a signed FBI Privacy Act statement signed and attached to the application. Please click here for the FBI Privacy Act statement.

2) Fill out mandatory online Pre-registration Form, by appointment only, in the First Selectman's Office (state will require a payment upon pre-registration via debit/credit card). Appointments are available Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. To schedule call 860-485-9051 Ext. 1102 or email selectmanoffice@harwinton.us.

3) Get fingerprinted (bring Pre-registration code from online pre-registration; First Selectman's office will provide print out when registration is completed [this is the last step])

  • Troop L (860) 626-7900 conducts fingerprinting. No appointment is necessary, however calling before going is strongly recommended to ensure that a trooper is available for fingerprinting. Call Troop L directly for fingerprinting & payment information - (860) 626-7900. A driver's license, state issued non-driver identification card or passport are required to be fingerprinted. 

Check list for final submission: Notarized applications, along with accompanying items listed below, can be put in a sealed envelope addressed to 'First Selectman's Office' and put in the secured drop box located on the left-hand side of the Town Hall Entrance. Please call or email prior to doing so (contact info. at bottom).

  1. Completed paper Application (can be notorized in the Town Clerk's or Selectman's Office) & FBI Privacy Act Statement (signed copies only), copies of: 
    1. NRA Certification
    2. Driver's license
  2. Pre-registration 
  3. Fingerprints are done at Troop L (860-626-7900 after Pre-registration. Pre-registration confirmation will be required in order to have fingerprints processed for pistol permit applicants.  A Transaction Code is required for fingerprints. Fingerprints cannot be done before pre-registration as completion of pre-registration generates the Transaction Code necessary for the final fingerprinting process
