Harwinton Memorial Day Parade

The Harwinton Memorial Day parade and ceremony will take place on Memorial Day, Monday, 29 May 2017.  The parade steps off from the Harwinton fairgrounds at 2pm.  It will proceed down Locust Rd to Bull Rd to South Rd where it will turn north on South Rd and terminate at the town green at the intersection of Rte 4, South Rd and North Rd.  The ceremony will take place on the town green following the parade. Rte 4 will be shut down between Locust/Harmony Hill Rds and Rte 118 starting at about 2:15 pm for the parade/ceremony duration.  Parade participants are to arrive at the fairground NLT 1:30pm and hook up with Parade Marshall Jon Stolicny for placement and directions.  The Grand Marshall of this year’s parade is retired USAF Col. Andy Kasznay.  A special tribute to him will be made at the ceremony.  He and Anne will be leaving Connecticut shortly after this event.  Retired Army Col. Mark Yanaway will be the guest speaker.  The 1st Litchfield Artillery Regiment will provide a cannon volley at the early stages of the ceremony.  The LSMHS band and choir and DJ Gary Gustafson will provide the music during the parade and ceremony.   The Harwinton Historical Society will be presenting the Harwinton citizen of the Year, Bruce Richards. The Harwinton Womens Club will be entering a veterans float.  We are seeking both veteran float riders and marchers.  A trophy for best float will be presented.
