HOOP - Harwinton Opiod Outreach Program

NARCAN & QPR TRAINING - April 12, 2023

Suicide & 988 Crisis Hotline

Mission Statement: Informing & offering education to the community about the risks of opioid misuse and the prevention of opioid addiction/overdose. We believe in providing resources as well as safe, judgement-free & interactive initiatives for lifesaving trainings while promoting sustainable tools for behavioral health & awareness.

Since December 2018 The Town of Harwinton has been involved with the McCall Center for Behavior Health to help educate Region 10 students & residents in an effort to combat the ongoing opioid epidemic. Since we have partnered with McCall we have created Harwinton Opioid Outreach Program (HOOP). We have picked up momentum as the Town is currently in its second grant cycle! Our goal is to spread awareness, education and offer trainings to help take the stigma away from mental health issues as well as opioid abuse. We are encouraged to see a steady increase of interest and even requests for trainings and educational materials.

These mini-grants are awarded by the state Department fo Mental Health and Addiction Services. Prevention is equally important as treatment. The more resources available to underlying issues that drive an individual to opioid overdose the less dependency on opioids (and other substances) as a coping method.

We look forward to having more events and collaborating with different community groups to help spread education & trainings in an inclusive & creative manner.

Please feel free to reach out to the First Selectman's Office for more information and/or to get involved in our outreach initiative. We love hearing from you! Email us at selectmanoffice@harwinton.us or give us a call at 860-485-9051 Ext. 1102.
